Frequently asked questions
What age is Tessera designed for?
Tessera adapts its visual output from birth through 12+ months based on infant vision research. However, it also works beautifully as a generative art display for anyone of any age.
Is screen time safe for my baby?
The AAP recommends minimizing screen time for children under 18 months. Tessera is designed for brief, supervised tummy-time visual stimulation — not extended unsupervised viewing. Always watch for signs of overstimulation: turning away, fussing, or yawning.
Does the app need internet?
No. Tessera runs entirely on your device with no internet connection required. No data is collected or transmitted.
How do I pause or stop a session?
Tap anywhere on the screen to pause. While paused, tap to resume or press "Back to settings" to return to the setup screen.
Can I use it on iPad?
Yes. Tessera is a universal app that runs natively on both iPhone and iPad in full screen, in any orientation.
Why does my screen stay on during a session?
Tessera prevents your device from sleeping during an active session so the visuals aren't interrupted. The screen will sleep normally when you pause or return to settings.
How do I go full screen?
On iPad and desktop browsers, press F for fullscreen. On iPhone, the app runs full screen automatically. For the best experience on iPad, add the web version to your Home Screen from Safari.
